LANDY GARDNER, FOUNDER
1953 – 2017
Born in Deridder, Louisiana, Landy was the first of three children born to Roland J. Gardner and Jolene Mauck Gardner. He graduated from Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana in 1971. Landy continued his education and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with his major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, with plans to go into the medical field. During his time in college, Landy spent a semester in Europe studying Art History. This period became the pivotal point that led him to discover his passion for art, architecture, and design and eventually propelled him into his beloved life-long career in Interior Design.
After studying and working alongside established designers, such as the late William Hamilton and Associates, Landy opened the doors to his own Interior Design Business in Nashville Tennessee, simply named Landy Gardner Interiors, circa 1990. With a reputation for superior quality and excellent service, Landy approached his diverse clientele with a unique philosophy, focusing on individual needs, blending the comfort of familiarity with elements that are fresh, using techniques proven and untried. “How a client works, plays, entertains, and relaxes all must be considered.”
In 2001, Landy was named, “Southeast Designer of the Year,” by the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, and he has been named, “Designer of the Year,” by Nashville magazine. He was published in Southern Living, Southern Accents, Traditional Home, Nashville Lifestyles, Showcase of Interior Design – Southern Edition, Better Homes and Gardens, Boulevard, Southern Rooms – Interior Design from Miami to Houston, Spectacular Homes of Tennessee, Atlanta, the cover of Veranda, and featured in Veranda’s 20th anniversary edition, “Twenty Years of Memorable Rooms.” Landy also appeared on HGTV’s, “Interiors by Design.”
Landy’s interior design projects include private residences in Tennessee, New York, California, Florida, Alabama, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Great Exuma, Bahamas. He designed rooms for the Tennessee Governor’s mansion, the Junior League of Nashville’s Designer Show Houses, and the Judd House in Dalton, Georgia. His commercial work includes health spas and executive offices in Nashville and office buildings across the country for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), as well as restaurants and bars for Strategic Hospitality.
Landy’s reputation of “Excellence” remains unparalleled, but the deep love he nurtured for his family and the few he chose to mentor created a legacy of timeless beauty. Clients everywhere continue to feel the impact of Landy’s spirit and creative genius, by the ones he left behind to carry on his vision. LGI continues to serve the Nashville community and beyond, with the same principles that were instilled into it’s very DNA: Integrity, Quality, Beauty, and a fundamental belief that the spaces we create to inhabit, serve as a visual reflection of our higher selves.
